220328 NRA policy

I’m a gun owner although I don’t keep any rounds here because of grandkids, because I’m too cheap to buy a safe lock box and low threats in the neighborhood.

How many rumors about gun confiscations have you heard in the past year, 10 years? Mine haven’t been confiscated, have yours? I used to belong to the NRA when it was about hunting, safety and unique firearms. Now they’re about imagined 2nd amendment threats and the need for more weapons at home. I must admit I’m confused by the vocal and confrontational 2nd amendment fanatics and here is why.

I currently own what I need and I’m pretty sure most FOID card holders have what they need. So why is the NRA pushing for more people to have guns? The NRA is right, “Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.”

Why is the NRA pressing to have more gun owners? If people aren’t convicted felons, known violent patients from mental facilities or have a restraining order against them, they are good to carry. The more people carrying who I don’t know, the less safe I feel. Watching other drivers convinces me, that there are a lot of irresponsible and angry people out there every day. Let’s give ‘em a gun to make driving safer.

I compare this situation to having nuclear weapons: USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, France, Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea. Would we be safer if Columbia, Niger and Vietnam had them and let’s not forget about Iran. Do more countries having the bomb make us safer? Do more people having unregistered, concealed carry guns make us safer? I’m sure those people feel better and more empowered, but I don’t give a damn about them. I worry about my family being in the wrong place and time.

“The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun.” That’s what people say, but who gets to fire the first shots? The bad guy. Better to not allow him to get a gun, thus background checks prevent a problem and make my family safer.
