Because they have people whose job is to report. Without reports we would rarely learn of misconduct, unethical or illegal activities. Wrongdoers rarely report on their activities.
The Society of Professional Journalists code of ethics includes:
Take responsibility for the accuracy of your work. Verify information before releasing it.
Remember that that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy.
Provide context. Taking care not to misrepresent or oversimplify a story.
Identify sources clearly. The public is entitled to as much information as possible to judge the reliability of sources.
Consider a sources’ motives for supplying information.
Seek out subjects of your news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.
Whenever I read, listen to or watch a story I compare it to the code above. If the story violates the code then the story is not journalism, but commentary or even propaganda. I try to live in reality which is only found through evidence. If there is no evidence then a story is fiction and followed for entertainment only.
Rarely does a cartoon provide evidence, but this one does.
I saw this picture of bindweed, copied it and present it here as an example of why it is so hard to get rid of the weed or a problem when its roots are buried and so long.
Which reminds me of another problem.
Which bring me back to the thought process of our Supreme Court. Our Constitution begins.

This is the goal of the makers, all else is secondary.

Can anyone explain how a suicidal 18 year old with no firearms training, walking through an elementary school holding a loaded AR-15 meets the definition of a well regulated militia? My English must not be so good.
How do 16 million AR-15s in the hands of untrained, unvetted and unknown people help?
