Both Republican and Democratic politicians are nosy. Both want to know things about you and yours that are personal and sometimes intimate. Let’s take a look at what Republican and Democratic voters think about these inquiries.
The Democrats want to know how you make your money and how much. They are questioning if you are paying your fair share of taxes or are you secreting away a big portion of the money in Republican legislated Federal tax loopholes or foreign tax havens for the rich?
As an example, “The Panama Papers refer to the 11.5 million leaked encrypted confidential documents that were the property of Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca. The documents were released on April 3, 2016, by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, dubbing them the “Panama Papers.” The files exposed a network of 214,000 tax havens involving wealthy people, public officials, and entities from 200 nations including American Harald Joachim von der Goltz who was convicted of wire and tax fraud, money laundering, and a host of other crimes relating to the Panama Papers scandal. He was sentenced to four years in a U.S. federal prison.”
Especially Trumplicans consider money affairs as very intimate information to be shared only between their tax accountants and themselves. Peeking at their numbers should be considered like rape. Maybe this is why Republicans are so opposed to increased funding for our Internal Revenue Service. A more effective IRS would shift some of the tax burden from the average citizen to the rich.
The Republicans want to know what’s in your medicine cabinet. Alcohol and tobacco are grandfathered in. Politicians have outlawed mind altering drugs sometimes for excellent reasons. Drugs like heroine are highly addictive and fentanyl is deadly. Republican used to stop the drug supply by spending hundreds of billions on airplanes, speed boats and increased military spending rather than investing a few million for researching why so many Americans wanted these drugs.
Since the 1930’s marijuana was made illegal primarily because musicians, comics, actors and other undesirables were known to use it, sometimes just to break the law. Although there was anecdotal evidence that marijuana was medically useful, no federally funded research was permitted until recently. Republicans still have it classified as a “Schedule I” drug meaning it has no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. DEA Drug Schedule.
Marijuana addiction can be a problem and it should be avoided by teenagers whose brains are still developing, but for old farts whose brains have been addled by alcohol?
The Democrats want to know how much pollution, corrosion and waste you cause or allow, so they can be reduced or eliminated. Democrats opposed the Trumplican relaxing of railroad regulations in 2018 allowing railroads to increase profits. Oops, East Palestine, Ohio derailment.
Trumplicans prevented creating a major infrastructure bill until Biden was elected then, with the assistance of some Republicans, the “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” was passed.
This Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal is rebuilding America’s roads, bridges and rails, expanding access to clean drinking water, ensuring every American has access to high-speed internet, tackling the climate crisis, advancing environmental justice, and investing in communities that have too often been left behind. The legislation will help ease inflationary pressures and strengthen supply chains by making long overdue improvements for our nation’s ports, airports, rail, and roads. It will drive the creation of good-paying union jobs and grow the economy sustainably and equitably so that everyone gets ahead for decades to come.
Trump allowed weakening of the 2010 Dodd-Frank banking bill designed to prevent another 2008 bank meltdown. This 2016 change removed much of the “on-hand” cash that was required to prevent a run on the bank. Trumplicans believe that what they pollute, allow to corrode and waste is a personal matter.
Republicans demand to know about your sex life. You better be hetero, dress in appropriate clothes, don’t speak about gender in school and most importantly, stay pregnant.
Democratic voters are more interested in climate change and being able to vote.
So Democrats are curious about your money.
Republicans need to look in your medicine cabinet.
Democrats want to see where you dump your garbage.
Republicans want informers or cameras in your restaurant, school and bedroom.
I think Democrats are less intrusive, but that’s just me.
